Bankwest wins WA Corporate Volunteer of the Year Award 2013

We are proud to announce Bankwest won the 2013 WA Corporate Volunteer of the Year Award.

Bankwest's strategy of Community Engagement as part of the Human Resources division reflects the recognition of the positive correlation of volunteering to staff engagement. With over 2500 colleagues located in the CBD building of Bankwest Place, the ability to activate volunteers locally is a clear strength to the program.

Since the commencement of the volunteering program with United Way and HOPE in 2010, colleague demand for volunteering has grown rapidly year on year.

In the 2012 calendar year, over 1000 WA colleagues (equivalent to 27% of WA based staff) gave back to the community over 4000 hours through volunteering with 18 organisations through the Bankwest volunteering program.

Bankwest is also actively involved in helping to shape and drive positive change within the community sector in a number of ways:

  • Is a founding member of the first Australian Corporate Volunteering Council, contributing to the development of the Corporate Volunteering Toolkit and holds the position of Secretary, playing an important role in the development and promotion of the Give 1 Corporate Volunteering initiative.
  • Holds joint-chair on the United Way Homelessness Coalition bringing together RUAH, St Barts, Foundation Housing and the Salvation Army to identify a challenge within the homelessness sector that can be worked on collaboratively.
  • Member of the Skills Based Volunteering Working Group with Woodside, NAB and VWA to shape and develop a WA focussed program for corporate members.
  • Bankwest regularly hosts Not for Profits events and functions in its state of the art Bankwest Place and provides pro-bono office space to partner Leadership WA.
